Theodore Judah was a railroad engineer with a dream to connect the east and west coasts of the United States by rail. His passion for the transcontinental railroad and the physical dangers of the Sierra Nevada earned him the nickname “Crazy Judah”. Judah surveyed the route that was eventually used for the transcontinental railroad and was instrumental in bringing together the major investors for the project, Mark Hopkins, Leland Stanford, Collis Huntington, and Charles Crocker.
